Never the Same
1998
for soprano and piano (1.5 min.)
One of the first pieces I ever wrote, it was a collaboration with my father, Eliezer Margolis, who wrote the text. Here’s the text:
winding intimation
first I was afraid, then I gave up my fear;
each turning took me down, into amethyst clear
rippling glimpses
below the surface shimmers
into plumbless depth;
first I was afraid, then I gave up my fear
tracing the arc of the summer sun
spiraling excursion
that instant the day gave up its heat
I was drawn into unknowing:
why the same is never the same
